The black boxes
Every work by Sal Foss—be it a painting, musical composition, poem, or text—is titled Black Box. These creations serve as bridges to his subconscious, each one a vessel for fragments of inner life, meticulously catalogued and sealed within its own black box.

Through the use of NFC technology, viewers can scan Foss’s paintings with a mobile device and enter an immersive world of sound and language: music, poetry, texts, and short stories unfold in response. This layered experience assembles a subconscious mosaic, inviting deep introspection and the discovery of hidden aspects of the self.

Like mirrors of the soul, Foss’s black boxes reflect not only his inner world but also that of the observer. They transform art into a private, introspective dialogue—an encounter between the visible and the invisible, the conscious and the unconscious.
